NAME

hexdump - dump a file in hexadecimal  

SYNOPSIS

hexdump [ option... ][ infile [ outfile ]]
hexdump -Help
hexdump -VERSion  

DESCRIPTION

The hexdump program is used to dump a file as hexadecimal.

If not input file name is supplied, or '-' is given, the standard input will be used.

If no output file name is supplied, or '-' is given, the standard output will be used.
 

OPTIONS

The following options are understood:
-Help

Provide some assistance on how to use the hexdump program.
-From number

Start dumping at the given byte in the file. The default is the start of the file (byte 0 or line 1).
-LIne [ number ]

Specify that the -From and -To arguments are lines, not bytes. Line numners are one based. If the optional number is supplied, this is as if '-From number' had been specified.
-Length number

Dump the given number of bytes (or lines).
-To number

Stop dumping when the given byte (or line) is reached. The default is the end of the file.
-Width number

Sets the width to be used for output. The default is 80 columns.
-No_Ascii

Do not print the column of ascii equivalents.
-Radix number

Set the radix to be used. Must be in the range 2 to 36. Defaults to 16.
-VERSion

Print the version number of the hexdump program being used.

All options are case insensitive. All options may be abbreviated; the abbreviations is shown in upper case. File names and options may be mixed arbitararily on the command line. Any other option will result in a diagnostic error.
 

EXIT STATUS

The hexdump program with exit with a status of 1 on any error. The hexdump program with only exit with a status of 0 if there are no errors.
